Tony Sanchez is a veteran human resource leader with a history of transforming and overseeing robust human resources functions. That experience has guided him to collaboratively implement HR strategies to achieve goals for a unified, diverse and talented work force.
Since 1993, Tony has worked in the healthcare sector serving large diverse organizations and began his higher ed journey at Lamar University in January 2021. Throughout Tony's career, he has gained experience in all areas of human resources including ethics, compliance, leadership development, employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, payroll, employee satisfaction and engagement, retention, process improvement and implementation, team building, and coaching and mentoring.
Prior to Lamar University, Tony served as the vice president of human resources and change management at Prospect Medical Holdings - Nix Health System, a multi-campus Acute Care and Psychiatric Regional System in San Antonio. While there he initiated and implemented a workforce plan increasing efficiency, boosting performance and aligned strategic HR functions. As a result, the organization achieved the highest customer scores and highest employee engagement scores in the company, as well as above national average in retention of employees. He is most proud that the organization achieved designation of 5 Star Quality Hospital, the only in the San Antonio region at the time.
Tony's life’s work has been devoted to helping those in need. He has always enjoyed being part of a greater good. At UNTD, Tony will continue that mission. He is excited to join UNTD and to build on the world-class faculty and create a student-centric culture that will have a lasting and immeasurable impact on our community for generations.
Tony holds a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications from Southern Methodist University and certificates in “Developing a Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Program” and in “Diversity and Inclusion in a Global Enterprise.” Additionally, he is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management and a former member of the board of directors of Economic Empowerment Project Quest, Inc.
On personal note, Tony is a proud husband to his wife Giko and father to two wonderful daughters. He plays guitar with anyone who can bear the sound and is a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Tony's favorite saying is "This is our year," followed by his second favorite saying "Next year is really our year."
