Fall 2024 Graduates
Graduating seniors who have applied for graduation will start to receive emails with
instructions on how to apply for experiential learning graduation cords on Wednesday, October 2nd. The application will be open from October 2nd - November 7th. In the instructions email, students will receive an online application to complete
for consideration. Students must be able to provide supervisor information (name,
organization, email address, and phone number) for hours verification. If you did
not receive that email, please contact our office within this time frame.
Requirements and Details
Students who are graduating in Fall 2024 are eligible for an Elite Scholar Cord and/or a Community Engaged Scholar Cord if they have met the following respective requirements:
- Elite Scholar Cord – for students who have completed a minimum of 100 hours of internship, capstone, practicum, or student teaching while being a student at UNT Dallas
- Community Engaged Scholar Cord – for students who have completed a minimum of 50 hours of community service or service learning while being a student at UNT Dallas
These experiential learning and co-curricular activities can be done for academic credit, student organization expectations, or for personal endeavors.

GRADUATION CORD FAQ’S
Q: What if I am still completing hours for a class after the deadline to submit my hours?
A: You should still complete the application and include the hours that you currently have complete and the anticipated date that your remaining hours will be completed.
Q: I am a student in the School of Education, do I need to complete the application to receive a cord for my student teaching hours?
A: Yes! You will need to complete an application but you will not need to upload your student teaching hours. We will verify your hours with the School of Education.
Q: Does my capstone course count for either the elite scholar or community engaged cord?
A: Your capstone course experience can count towards the elite scholar cord only if you are engaging in an external internship experience as a requirement towards your course.
Q: Can I list service I have done while at another university?
A: No. You can only submit hours you completed as a UNT Dallas student.
Q: Can I still list service to the community if it was during my freshman or sophomore year here at UNT Dallas?
A: Yes. Hours completed during any year of time at UNT Dallas can count towards cords.
Q: Can I include my observation hours for my class?
A: Observation hours do not count as service to the community.
