Public Health Bachelor's Degree Program

What is a bachelor's degree in Public Health?

Are you interested being able to change lives by impacting and improving the health and well-being of communities? Public health professionals serve as a link between communities, governments and medical professionals, and are well-versed in science and sociology, as well as public policy. At UNT Dallas, the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Public Health is an ideal degree for students interested in careers where they can influence the health and well-being of their communities (health education, research, health administration and policy development). The Bachelor of Science degree program in Public Health is ideal for students interested in careers in the health professions (pharmacy, dentistry, physician assistant, veterinary and medical sciences).

Why earn a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from UNT Dallas?

UNT Dallas has pioneered one of the first undergraduate majors in Public Health in North Texas. This innovative and multidisciplinary degree brings together excellent faculty in public health, psychology, sociology and environmental science. It offers our students the opportunity to focus in one of four emphasis areas: health science; behavioral and community health; diversity, ethics and global health; and health promotion and programs. All Public Health majors also complete a Capstone course that offers internships and other applied, experiential opportunities to build a professional network throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

What career opportunities are available with a Public Health degree?

The public health sector is one of the fastest growing in the nation. The U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics predicts that job growth will be more rapid than the national average for health educators, environmental scientists, health specialists and medical and health services specialists. Data from the Texas Workforce Commission indicates an even higher rate of growth in the public health sector in Texas, as compared to the rest of the nation.
