Dallas County Promise

WHEN WILL I SEE DALLAS PROMISE LISTED IN MY FINANCIAL AID PACKAGE?

The review process of financial aid files for students participating in the Dallas County Promise Scholarship program who are enrolled for the spring 2025 term will begin after the census day (12th day of class) for the term. For the spring 2025 term the review process will begin on Monday, February 3, 2025. It is a manual review process and is anticipated to take approximately 2 weeks; graduating seniors will be reviewed first, then other upperclassmen, and finally first semester students. Only completed financial aid applications will be reviewed for possible funding, this includes completing the verification process if selected.

To be considered for spring 2025 Dallas County Promise funding, students must meet the following criteria.

  1. Enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours at UNT Dallas for the term
    1. If graduating this fall, the 6 hour minimum does not apply
  2. Submit the Fall\Spring Expected Enrollment form which is available in the student portal if not already completed
  3. Have a completed and awarded FAFSA or TASFA on file for the 2024-2025 aid year

WHAT DOES DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE PAY?

The Dallas County Promise Scholarship funds are restricted to tuition only after all federal, state, and institutional grants, scholarships, and waivers\exemptions have been applied. These funds cannot be used towards fees, books\supplies, on-campus housing, or other expenses. Incoming high school seniors could receive Promise Scholarship funding for up to four years or the completion of the first bachelor’s degree. Incoming transfer students from Dallas College could receive Promise Scholarship funding for up to three years or the completion of the first bachelor’s degree.

WILL MY CLASSES BE DROPPED FOR NON-PAYMENT?

Because Dallas County Promise does not cover your full bill, one of the following must be done to prevent your courses from being dropped:

  • Enroll in the installment plan offered in the student portal.
  • Accept enough aid to cover your full balance.

HOW DOES UNT DALLAS DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUNDING I WILL RECEIVE?

All students that have been identified as meeting Promise Program requirements, as well as those meeting the renewal requirements, will be reviewed for possible Promise scholarship funding every semester.

Promise students that started at UNT Dallas prior to the Fall 2021 term:
Promise funding for these students is calculated by taking the full amount of tuition only charges for the term and deducting the amounts of the Pell Grant, TEXAS Grant, TPEG, and Tuition Grant. Whatever tuition has not been covered by these grants will be covered by Dallas Promise. Loans and Outside Scholarships (also known as third-party scholarships) are not included in the Dallas Promise funding calculation. If you do not receive Promise Scholarship funds for any term because of the aid that you have, you will be reviewed in future terms in case your aid package changes. Examples are below:
