UNT Dallas College of Law alumna Fabiola Segovia was the recipient of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association's 2019 Estrella Award during the 50th anniversary Noche de Luz Gala held last month at the Joule Hotel.
Segovia, a member of the 2014 inaugural class at UNT Dallas College of Law and UNT Dallas Criminal Justice major before that, was recognized for her work with the nonprofit, March to the Polls. She volunteers as a guest speaker, encouraging high school seniors to register to vote and become engaged in their community. In two years, March to the Polls has registered more than 4,000 high school seniors to vote.
"I am thankful to the DHBA," Segovia said in a statement released by the law firm Hamilton Wingo, LLP, where she serves as an associate attorney. "I am honored to receive this award and proud to continue the association's mission of being a positive and constant force in helping the issues that affect the Hispanic communities."
The Estrella Award is presented to an up-and-coming attorney in the DHBA membership who has distinguished themselves and has given back to the Hispanic and legal communities.
Segovia is the younger of two siblings born to immigrant parents from Mexico. At UNT Dallas College of Law, she was a founding board member of the Law Review's multimedia journal Accessible Law and wrote articles for the Spanish-speaking community. Segovia is a guest lecturer at UNT Dallas College of Law, where she presents real-life exercises to 1L students by walking them through the work they will do as young associates.
"We are extremely proud of Fabiola for her zealous representation of our clients and her continued work in the Hispanic communities," said Chris Hamilton, owner and partner of Hamilton Wingo, LLP. "We are lucky to have her as a member of our team."
