The University of North Texas at Dallas announced the promotion of Derrick Morgan to fill the newly created position of Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.
Recognized as the fastest-growing public university in Texas, UNT Dallas recently surpassed 5,000 alumni. Morgan will continue to work within the Division of University Advancement, Office of Development, on fundraising, and alumni and donor relations efforts. He also will be responsible for fundraising initiatives in conjunction with the launch of UNT Dallas’ new intercollegiate athletics program, which begins competition this fall.
Morgan started his new role on March 1.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving UNT Dallas and the Division of University Advancement in this exciting, new role,” Morgan said. “Great things are happening here. I love being a part of multiple initiatives on campus that will help build UNT Dallas for the generations of Trailblazer students and alumni to come.”
Morgan brings more than 25 years of experience, including 12 years at multiple UNT System campuses. He joined the UNT Dallas College of Law as Director of Development, Alumni Relations and Special Projects in 2014, before moving to the UNT Dallas main campus in 2018 to perform the role university-wide.
“I am delighted to announce this new role to UNT Dallas and am so pleased to fill it from within,” said Dr. Monica Williams, UNT Dallas Vice President for Advancement. “Derrick has devoted the majority of his professional career to UNT World institutions and has served the Division of University Advancement at UNT Dallas and our College of Law faithfully. I know he will do an exceptional job of helping to advance the mission of UNT Dallas and developing the framework to further engage alumni.”
Prior to UNT Dallas, Morgan was the Executive Director of the University of North Texas Alumni Association in Denton, where he led the alumni relations program for more than 200,000 graduates.
A graduate of Texas Tech University, Morgan also served as Director of Alumni Relations at San Jose State University, and as Associate Vice President of Marketing and Membership of the Texas Tech University Alumni Association.
