Mother of Six Makes the Most of Her Second Chance at College

Nicole Everitt’s first attempt at college didn’t go well. She’s partially deaf, and transitioning from her small high school to a large auditorium was difficult. Fast forward 17 years, and the 35-year-old mother of six will graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) on December 17. She will receive a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry.

Future Doctor Driven to Find Cure for Disease That Ails His Mother

Class of 2024 graduating senior Connor Hester was able to attend UNT Dallas thanks to Dallas County Promise, a workforce development partnership that pays college tuition for deserving and eligible students. Now, he’s made a promise to “make people’s lives better” by helping find treatments and cures for diseases that affect millions of us, including the Rheumatoid Arthritis that ails his mother.
