In February 2019, the faculty adopted the below Learning Outcomes. A “two-level” enunciation of the learning outcomes appears below. The faculty also has adopted a third level—performance criteria.
Graduates of the UNT Dallas College of Law will:
I. Know and Understand Foundational Substantive and Procedural Law
I.A. Know and understand foundational substantive and procedural law, including the subjects tested on the bar exam
I.B. Know and understand sources of law, processes for law making and interpretation of law, and policy perspectives on law
II. Think Critically About the Law
II.A. Read legal sources for full understanding
II.B. Analyze legal sources for connections and conflicts
II.C. Apply understanding of legal sources to real-life scenarios
III. Communicate Effectively as a Counselor and Advocate
III.A. Write and speak clearly about legal issues within conventional frameworks for objective legal analysis
III.B. Write and speak within the attorney-client relationship to serve the needs, perspectives, and goals of diverse clients
III.C. Write and speak persuasively on behalf of clients in a manner consistent with the interests of the profession and the wider community
IV. Practice Ethically and Successfully in a Diverse and Changing World
IV.A. Demonstrate understanding of attorneys’ ethical and professional obligations to clients and the legal system
IV.B. Manage workload and professional relationships to produce quality work in collaborative environments
IV.C. Conduct efficient research to discover the law and facts relevant to client problems
IV.D. Facilitate complex problem solving in a methodical way to produce lasting solutions
V. Achieve readiness to succeed on the bar exam.
V.A. Develop and be prepared to implement a plan for studying for and taking the bar exam; the plan will take into account financial factors, time factors, exam construction, and personal strengths and weaknesses.
V.B. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skills critical as to each component of the bar exam.
