Allison Van Stean

Allie Van Stean joined the UNT Dallas College of Law faculty in 2023 and currently serves as the Director of Advocacy Competitions and a Visiting Professor of Practice.  Professor Van Stean’s expertise is in the areas of advocacy (both oral and written) and persuasive communication.

Professor Van Stean received her juris doctorate from UNT Dallas College of Law in 2018. She was extensively involved in the College of Law’s Board of Advocates, including twice serving on the executive board. In 2017, Professor Van Stean achieved first place in the National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition. In 2018, the State Bar of Texas Appellate Division awarded her with the Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy. Professor Van Stean received her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Texas.

Before joining the faculty at UNT Dallas College of Law, Professor Van Stean practiced general civil litigation as a Senior Associate Attorney at Kizzia Johnson Law Firm, a boutique law firm located in Dallas, Texas. With a particular focus on civil rights litigation, including cases involving excessive force and discrimination, Professor Van Stean demonstrated an unwavering commitment to seeking justice for all. Meanwhile, she remained committed to UNT Dallas College of Law’s advocacy program, coaching moot court students in external competitions.

Professor Van Stean’s scholarship interests include exploration of the history of persuasive advocacy and effective methods of teaching advocacy skills.

In her personal life, Professor Van Stean is known for her affinity for feline companions, boasting a household with three cherished cats. In more leisurely moments, she enjoys reading books of all genres and winding down with the melodies of Taylor Swift.
